Embracing Gratitude: Thankfully, it's the season of thanks

Focusing on gratitude increases our mental and physical wellness. Gratitude practices can be simple, easily accessible and reflect who we are.

As the season of thanks approaches, it’s the perfect moment to pause and reflect on all we are grateful for. Fall has always been my favorite time—not just because of holiday traditions, but because the shorter days and cooler nights naturally invite reflection and deeper appreciation.

Maybe it’s the cycle of the sun, reminding us to cherish this time between the warmth of summer and the quiet stillness of winter. It feels like the ideal time to slow down and connect with a sense of gratitude.

“My gratitude grows exponentially in the fall, perhaps it is the cycle of the sun reminding me to appreciate this time that rests between long, warm summer days . . .cold nights of winter when the sun reluctantly breaks the day.”

Over the past few years, we’ve all heard a lot about gratitude practices. It’s a trend that’s caught on for good reason—people have discovered how powerful it can be for their mental and physical wellbeing. But I hope we don’t let this practice fade away or dismiss it as just another fad.

Gratitude isn’t something we do just because it’s “in.” It’s a mindset shift that can create lasting, meaningful change in our lives. Research continues to show that even practicing gratitude once a week can boost your mood and energy levels. It doesn’t take much—just a few minutes of reflection to remind yourself of what truly matters.

The beauty of gratitude is in its simplicity. It’s not about a long checklist or a grand ritual. It’s about pausing and appreciating the people, moments, and little things that make life a bit brighter. So, as we move into this season of reflection, take a moment for yourself. Let the warmth of thankfulness carry you through the coming weeks, and don’t forget to give yourself credit for showing up—right where you are, just as you are.
